Global Book Bags

Workshop Series for  Elementary Teachers

Encourages students to explore global themes through age-appropriate picture books and learning activities that are designed for making connections between the home and classroom. Teacher-created book bags help students investigate the world, recognize perspectives, communicate ideas, and take action.

Goals

1. Encourage elementary teachers and librarians to have their students develop global competence and literary skills through children's literature and through learning activities at home and school.

2.  Participants will learn about Global Book Bags and global competence, explore literature with global themes, and create book bags to take back to their classrooms.

Specifications

This is a free workshop. Participating teachers are encouraged to attend the Orientation Workshop in the series and may attend one, two, or all three follow- up workshops to build their skills, professional network, and collection of resources for use in the classroom. Teachers who do not attend the Orientation Workshop are invited to attend one, two, or all three of the follow-up workshops.
