CISP at CSU Long Beach is a Choices Training Provider of Brown University's The Choices Program

Mission Statement

The program seeks to empower young people with the skills, knowledge, and participatory habits to be engaged citizens who are capable of addressing international and public policy issues through thoughtful public discourse and informed decision making.

How does the program help students?

  • Students gain skills and knowledge in order to compete in the 21st Century by incorporating Choice materials which incorporate the latest scholarship from Brown University and beyond
  • By learning to draw connections between historical events and contemporary international issues
  • In each unit, a central activity challenges students to consider multiple viewpoints on contested issues
  • Students will learn to examine historical, cultural, and political background of issues in order to prepare coherent presentations
  • Follow-up discussion demands analysis, and evaluation of conflicting values, interests, and priorities. Students are expected to formulate persuasive arguments and express their own views
